Study Abroad Award

Study abroad awards are used to recognize Hagan Scholars for outstanding achievement. Recipients will have the opportunity to earn college credits, visit and explore another country, meet its people and experience its culture, art and history firsthand. Study abroad can be a life changing experience and will enhance a recipient’s resume. The award amount will pay all program costs including tuition, fees, room and board, round trip airfare and incidental expenses, up to $8,000.

Process
Eligible recipients are notified the fall semester of their third year of college and provided with a Study Abroad Application.

Eligibility Criteria
1. Must have achieved a 3.50 CGPA after completion of the second year of college as a Hagan Scholar.  
2. Must have fulfilled all scholarship criteria, Schwab account criteria, and recipient responsibilities.
3. Must complete a study abroad application.

Study Abroad Particulars
1. Must be arranged by recipient’s college or university, or an alternate provider approved by the recipient’s instituton.
2. Study abroad credits must be shown on recipient’s official grade transcript.
3. Must occur during the winter intercession, the second semester, during spring break or the following summer.
4. Must earn at least three college credit hours.
5. Must earn 30 credit hours the fall and spring semesters.
6. The maximum study abroad award will be limited to $8,000. Additonal costs must be paid by the recipient.
7. Intercession, spring break and summer study abroad credits cannot be counted to meet the 30 credit hour requirement.
8. Recipient’s studying abroad during the summer must return home by July 12, 2024.
9. Must write a study abroad report within two weeks after the end of study abroad, and upload to the study abroad report Link.

Hagan Scholars have studied abroad in 51 countries: Albania, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Belize, Brazil, Bolivia, Canada, Cambodia, China, Costa Rica, Cuba, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Equador, England, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Greek Islands, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malta, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, Republic of Singapore, Scotland, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, United Kingdom, Vietman.
